Welcome To Kindergarten

Would you like to see your classroom and meet me before Labor Day? Then I have good news for you and your families! Come visit the classroom and drop off your school supplies (which will be communal, it is not necessary to label your name) Friday, August 29th. If your last name begins with letters A - L your time is 12:30 until 1:30. If your last name begins with letters M - Z your time is 1:30 until 2:30. I'm happy to answer questions. Then come back ready to learn and have fun for a full day on Tuesday, September 2nd. John W. Garvy will be mailing you more information about the first day of school. I look forward to meeting all of you very soon. Enjoy the rest of your summer!

Jumping Into a New Year

I finally did it! I've been wanting to sky dive for years and this summer I had the opportunity to do so. It was the most amazing feeling and I loved every second of it. With my daredevil stunt behind me I'm left feeling ready for a new year in Kindergarten. It promises to be full of excitement and learning. Enjoy the rest of your summer and I look forward to meeting you when the school year begins!

End of the Year Party

The end of the year party was a great time for everyone in Room 111 to celebrate the completion of kindergarten! The kids did a beautiful job of decorating the room and making it so colorful. In addition to dancing, games, crafts and a pinata, we ate pizza, veggies and donuts. Needless to say the time went by quickly and everyone had a great time. Thank you again to all the room parents for putting together such a lovely party!

Field Trip to Lincoln Park Zoo

Did you know that the giraffe is the tallest animal on the ground and can reach up to 19 feet in height? We had a very successful field trip to Lincoln Park Zoo. Along with many other schools our class was able to navigate through the zoo and see some very interesting animals.

After a long wait for our bus we finally arrived back to Garvy just in time to go home and enjoy a three day weekend. I'd like to thank all of the chaperones for volunteering their time and energy. The kids and I really appreciate and feel lucky to have such supportive parents!

Silent Auction Park Play Date

In support of the Garvy School Silent Auction I donated a play date in the park. After school we went to get an ice cream treat, played in the park and painted our fingernails (pink with sparkles of course). We had a great time! Thank you to all the families whose efforts and financial support made the auction an overwhelming success.

Buddies!

Recently our Kindergarten class has been spending time with older students at Garvy. During these times we have read books to buddies and listened to stories. Our reading skills continue to progress and we have a class of readers. It's a very exciting time in Kindergarten.

The eighth graders incubated chicken eggs and had a very successful batch of 10 chicks. Visiting their classroom and learning about the life cycle was time well spent. Plus our class really liked seeing the little chicks!

Spring!

We've been very busy in Kindergarten over the past four months. Among our favorite activities were the celebrations of the 100th day of school, Valentine's and St. Patrick's Day. We also had a great field trip to the Chicago Children's Museum where we learned about ourselves through artwork. Very important news is that we are now reading books by ourselves!

Here are some great photos from our field trip to Navy Pier.
